Welcome to the Urban Vegetable Project Fall Share CSA for 2017! We are so excited to have you all as members of our farm. We love every part of farming, but CSA holds a special place in our hearts. We love the intimacy that happens when we carefully and tenderly grow vegetables that end up at your family's dinner table, week after week.
This blog will serve as a way for you to get more information about your CSA boxes. We'll be including a list of what's in season, recipe ideas, and any other news you may need for that week.
We're still in the hot season here in South Florida. Our early-season crops are ones that can withstand the heat of the late Miami Summer, as well as tolerate some sporadic tropical rainfall. Being our first big harvest, this week also includes a lot of 'baby' vegetables. These are not different varieties altogether, but instead are harvested while the fruit is young.
Baby vegetables are usually more tender, and more delicious, than their full-grown counterparts. This is especially true for the greens in this week's box: baby kale and baby chard can be eaten raw in a salad. Baby greens also have more value: chefs will pay up for four times more for a Baby variety over a mature plant.
